December Malalignment Workshop

If you are suffering from chronic back pain, you may be out of alignment...

We believe we have found the missing link to treating chronic back pain. We call it
the Malalignment Syndrome.

Every month we host a workshop where we invite patients, Doctors, and therapists alike to attend. You will learn how to detect and correct your alignment using simple, yet effective methods.

The last workshop for this year will be on December 8th, at 5:00pm. The cost is $75 and an extended health receipt is provided.
Please call us at 604-439-9111 to reserve a spot as seats are limited.

Jan Boyd & Plaza Physiotherapy Clinic

We would like to take a moment to tell you about our clinic and its founder, Jan Boyd.

Jan Boyd graduated from the University of Alberta following completion of a B.Sc. and B.PT (honors) in 1979. She worked in research and has published works in medical journals. She also worked in private practice in Edmonton and taught the prenatal program as well as being an associate lecturer at the university. After moving to Vancouver, B.C., she went into private practice at Plaza Physiotherapy. She completed many post graduate courses in manual therapy and sports medicine in Canada, the United States and Japan. Jan was an active participant in orthopedic symposiums and the summer games. Her other official capacities included official investigator for B.C., disciplinary committee for the physiotherapy association and an examiner at the university since 1998. Jan always encouraged a healthy lifestyle in both personal and professional endeavors.

Jan Boyd also worked very closely with her friend and business partner Dr. Wolfgang Schamberger. The two of them were passionate about teaching and helping people with Pelvic and Spinal malalignment. They created backhealthworks which made information available through books, DVDs and workshops.

Jan passed away in a tragic accident in December of 2008. She leaves behind her 2 sons Christopher Boyd of Vancouver, BC, and Patrick Boyd of Manchester, UK. Her legacy and teachings carry on through her published works, her DVD, and her clinic.

In the years prior to her passing, Jan's vision was to expand her clinic and morph it into an all-in-one clinic that addressed all of the most common and difficult to treat complaints/disorders.
It was to combine an "east meets west" philosophy along with specialized forms of treatments which were to be tailored to suit each patient individually.
With the help of her son Christopher Boyd (manager/director), they began to expand and renovate the clinic as well as bring in the appropriate therapists.
All of the physiotherapists are highly trained (Sarah Stevens, Shirin Hatami, and Dr. He). Additional services were added that complimented the patients treatment outcomes such as custom fitted Footmaxx Orthotics, IMS Acupuncture, Craniosacral, and osteopathy.
Dr. He is a MD (china) and now Registered Naturopathic Doctor and Registered Acupuncturist. He combines traditional Chinese medicine, with modern Naturopath and Acupuncture treatments.

Plaza Physiotherapy is now known as Plaza Therapy & Wellness Clinic and is a thriving clinic, newly renovated space with a studio atmosphere. Chai and green tea is served in the waiting area, and the staff is friendly and very accomodating to your needs. Of course all of the services are covered under extended health benefits. It is located conveniently 1 block east of Metrotown shopping center and 3 blocks east of the Skytrain station in the well known 5000 Kingsway Plaza-Medical Professional complex.

Jan's vision came true and will carry on. If you think you or someone you know could benefit from one of the services and would like to book an appointment please contact us at

The Malalignment Syndrome

Chronic back pain can be crippling, both physically and emotionally. This may manifest itself as lower back pain, leg pain, neck pain, or pain referred to various regions. It may be the result of an accident, or it may seem to have appeared out of nowhere. Either way, if it is not treated properly, it simply will not go away. Traditional medicine, physiotherapy, or chiropractics may not work for some people. That's because their core problem of spinal and pelvic malalignment is not being addressed.

At our clinic we address the Malalignment Syndrome.
We encourage our patients to attend our workshops which are taught by Dr. Wolfgang Schamberger & our staff. These workshops are open to everyone and are only $75/per workshop

Workshops

We'll show you how to determine if the pain is being caused because your spine and pelvis are out of alignment. You'll also learn specific exercises that you can do in your home that will relieve your pain by addressing the root of the problem. As you learn and follow these back alignment solutions, many of your chronic aches and pains will begin to lessen or disappear all together.
Our workshops, exercises, and techniques have helped many, many people who were running out of hope. Subtle corrections of the core muscles can fix malalignment problems that have existed for years, and that have resisted other forms of treatment
